The quarterly 'Corporate IT Buying Behavior & Customer Satisfaction Study: Desktops' report rates a total of 24 factors of end customers' experiences to create four indices measuring products themselves, sales, service and loyalty. This report then combines the four indices, creating the Satisfaction Index, which ranks desktop vendors Dell, HP and Lenovo with a total score out of a possible 100 points.

According to this report, HP's higher customer loyalty and sales satisfaction helped it edge out Lenovo to secure the highest desktop customer satisfaction score in 4Q14. While HP and Lenovo customers reported some significantly higher satisfaction than Dell customers, the two vendors' satisfaction scores were similar to one another. Relative to Dell, HP's significant differentiation was in sales-related attributes, particularly purchase price/acquisition cost and delivery time and product availability. Lenovo's scores exceeded Dell's in product and services attributes, with a significant advantage in virtualization, efficiency and scalability.
